Ann Nesby is a powerhouse vocalist, actress, and songwriter with a career spanning over two decades. She began her professional journey in the 1980s, working with gospel legends like Rev. James Cleveland and the Gospel Music Workshop of America. Her breakout came as the lead vocalist of the Grammy-winning group Sounds of Blackness, where her vocal talent and songwriting skills helped elevate the group to international prominence.
Beyond her work with Sounds of Blackness, Nesby has collaborated with industry icons such as STING and R&B legends Patti LaBelle and Gladys Knight. Her solo career began with the release of I’m Here for You in 1996, a genre-blending album that spent 60 weeks on the R&B charts. She has since released several albums, earning six Grammy nominations and solidifying her place as a solo artist to be reckoned with.
In addition to her music career, Nesby has appeared in film and theater, including Tyler Perry’s I Know I’ve Been Changed and the musical comedy The Fighting Temptations alongside Cuba Gooding Jr. and Beyoncé. She has continued to diversify her artistry, releasing a dance anthology, gospel albums, and her first-ever holiday album, Soulful Christmas.
Today, Ann Nesby remains a creative force, working on new music, acting roles, and even launching her own food venture, Ms. Ann’s Soulful Casserole. Her latest album, Make Me Better [Expanded Edition], is available now, featuring remastered tracks and new bonus recordings.
